Searching (2018) was a rare movie that I watched twice in theater --- this is to show you how hyped and demanding I am about Missing, the sequel. Inheriting the entirely computer-screen narrative, Missing succeeds the original film’s level of heart-dropping thriller and nail-biting intricacy through unpredictable plot progression, engrossing investigation methods, and countless riveting twists. Another highlight of the movie are the refreshing characters, especially Javier, a comedic delight, and “Grace”, who presents the most selfless, affectionate, and protective of a mother whose love is often hindered by a gap of communication. However, and here goes the complaints, I’m not convinced by villain daddy’s psychopathic motive when compared to his ability to scheme a convoluted vendetta, nor do I think the mother’s actual performance matches her sacrificial past. Overall, if Searching is astonishing, Missing is surprising --- not as well done, but still a solid 7 for me.
